If you are getting married, starting to cohabit or entering into a registered partnership

The municipality will inform us directly of a marriage or registered partnership. You do not have to make any additional arrangements for your partner to be eligible for a partner’s pension. In other forms of cohabitation, your partner is not automatically entitled to partner's pension on your death.

Registering your partner

In order for your partner to be entitled to partner’s pension, you have to meet certain conditions, such as having a cohabitation agreement executed. You can register your partner using this form.

If you get married outside the Netherlands, we will not be notified automatically by the municipality. In this case, you must send us copies of the marriage certificate and your partner’s passport or identity card.

Partner’s and orphan’s pension

At the Mars Pension Fund, you accrue retirement and partner's pension and are insured for an orphan's pension. The retirement pension is for you. The partner's pension is for your partner (if applicable) in the event of your death. The orphan's pension is for your surviving children. The exact arrangements for your partner and children depend on your situation and the choices you make.

How it works

If you die before you retire

Your partner will receive a partner's pension. The amount of this is stated in your annual Uniform Pension Overview. Your partner will receive this partner's pension for as long as they live. Your children will receive orphan's pension. Each child will receive 20% of the partner's pension.

If you die after you retire

Your partner will receive a partner's pension. The amount of this is stated in your annual Uniform Pension Overview. How much pension your partner ultimately receives depends on the choices you make when you retire.

At the beginning of your retirement you can:

Each child receives 20% of the partner's pension as orphan's pensionuntil they reach 18 years of age, or 27 years of age if they remain in education.

If you die after leaving employment

your partner receives the partner's pensioen that you accrued during your employment at Mars. If you leave your job and take your pension with you to another administrator, your partner and children will no longer be insured for orphan’s pension with the Mars Pension Fund.
