Accrual percentage

Accrual percentage

Each year, you accrue pension on your pensionable salary plus your average shift allowance. Part of your salary is not counted, as we take account of the AOW pension you will receive later. This part is known as the deductible (Franchise). In 2024, the deductible is €25,666.55. You accrue retirement pension at the annual rate of 1.657% of your gross salary less the deductible.

Example pension accrual

Your pensionable salary plus average shift allowance is  € 45,666.55
The deductible (2024) is € 25,666.55
The part on which you accrue pension is € 20,000
your accrual in that year is € 331.40

The total retirement pension you receive when you retire is based on your pensionable salary at the end of your career. Plus the extra pension to which you are entitled. The total amount is shown in your UPO and in My Planner.

You do not accrue pension on your (full-time) salary above € 137,800 (2024).

Frequently asked questions

The final pay plan has been amended a few times in past years. At that time, part of the pension was separated. This is what we call the ‘extra pension’. We do strive to increase this pension. The indexation on the part you accrued until 2015 (ERP 1) is unconditional. So you know for sure that your ‘extra pension’ will follow the wage index each year.

The indexation on the part you accrued from 1 January 2015 (ERP2) is conditional. So you cannot count on this part of your extra pension being indexed every year. While you are employed at Mars, the indexation is linked to the wage index. The Mars Pension Fund Pension Board decides whether indexation will be applied each year on the basis of the fund’s financial position.
