When you reach 58 years of age (ARP/ASP)

When you reach 58 years of age

When you reach 55 years of age, you can make a provisional choice between a fixed or a variable pension. We recommend you do this not later than on your 58th birthday. This is 10 years before the standard retirement age in the pension plan (68 years). You then choose how you wish to invest in the final 10 years. Have you opted for free investment? Then you must arrange the reduction to fixed/variable pension yourself via the investment mix. This works very differently from participating in the Lifecycles.

This is an important decision at 58 years of age

This is because different investment approaches apply depending on your choice of a fixed or a variable pension.

  • If you provisionally choose for a fixed pension, you will probably need to reduce your investment risk. The Fixed Life Cycle is the most suitable investment choice for a fixed pension.
  • If you provisionally choose for a variable pension, a higher investment risk will be appropriate. The Variable Life Cycle is the most suitable investment choice for a variable pension.

On your retirement date, you use your pension capital in the ARP and ASP plans to purchase a pension. This is when you make the final decision for a fixed or a variable pension.

What should you do?

This depends on your age:

  • If you are 58 years of age or more, we recommend that you make a decision as to whether to take a fixed or variable pension as soon as possible.
  • If you are not yet 58 years of age, you do not need to anything at this point. You will be notified at the time when we ask you to choose.
  • From age 55, you can certainly start to consider whether to take a fixed or a variable pension and let us know your decision. You can use the Beleggingswijzer in MyMarsPension. You can consider the investment approach that suits you best and make your provisional choice for a fixed or variable pension. But remember: until you reach 58 years of age, the Fixed and Variable Life Cycles are the same. After reaching this age, the Life Cycles are different.
