News about the board of Mars Pension Fund

28 May 2018

Wim van de Laar leaves Mars

Wim van de Laar has been on the board of Mars Pensioenfonds (MPF) since 2003 as a board member on behalf of the employees. Wim will say goodbye to Mars as an employer on 1 July. But Wim has indicated that he would like to continue as a board member after that (his term ends in 2021). The board agrees to stay on and sees this as a good guarantee for continuity. By the end of Wim's term, a successor will have to be available, hopefully we will have a wide choice from a well-filled talent pool.

Objection? If you object to Wim staying on as a board member on behalf of the employees, you can report this until June 25, 2018.

Please send an email for the attention of the board to:

What does a board position entail?

Wim already talked about his board position in an interview: 'What makes membership of this board so exciting? Firstly, of course, because pension is one of the most important fringe benefits offered by Mars. When the holiday money comes into the account, everyone is looking forward to this nice amount to spend. It is good to realize that Mars spends much more on your pension than on holiday pay. This is to be able to offer all employees a good pension. And Mars does indeed have a very good pension plan. Cooperating to support this important benefit is very meaningful work.

What makes it interesting is also that it is very different from your normal role. As an R&D manager I am used to working with numbers, but in a completely different area and in a completely different context. It is precisely this broadening, which also offers so many social interfaces, that makes it very challenging and interesting. Working at the pension fund has certainly also contributed to my personal development. To stay in Mars terms, elements like Business Acumen, Integrity & Trust and Decision Quality are certainly good personal goals that you can develop with this.'
