New members for Accountability Council

4 February 2022

Mars Pension Fund is looking for a new candidate for the Accountability Council on behalf of the employees. There are candidates found by means of the Talent Pool. You can apply yourself as a candidate for the vacancy.

The Pension Board is accountable for its policy to the Accountability Council. The members, pensioners and the employer are represented in the Accountability Council. Each of these groups is represented by 1 member. In view of the important issues with regard to the pension agreement that is being prepared by

the government, we consider this to be too little. The board has therefore decided to expand the Accountability Council from a 1/1/1 to a 2/2/2 membership. This also makes it possible to appoint an active member of the two different plans, the old final pay plan and the new ARP/ASP plan, as a member

of the Accountability Council. Judith Vermeulen, Benefits Manager NL, is currently a member of the Accountability Council on behalf of active members. Due to her job rotation from Rewards to Benefits, Judith has now been appointed by the employer as her representative and there are 2 vacancies for members of the Accountability Council on behalf of active members. One for a member of the final pay plan and one for a member of the ARP/ASP plan.

Talent Pool

Mars Pension Fund sets high standards for the Accountability Council. The Accountability Council ultimately assesses the policy of the pension fund. To ensure that suitable candidates are ready, Mars Pension Fund trains its own candidates. We do this by means of the Talent Pool. The Board has identified 2 candidates from this Talent Pool who are suitable for these vacancies: Eric van Deijck and Joris Janssen. There are currently no pensioners available from the Talent Pool. But Harry Faassen has been found willing to fill the vacancy as a representative on behalf of pensioners on the Accountability Council. We introduce the three candidates below.

Eric van Deijck

Eric (59) joined Mars Veghel in 1986 as an engineer and is a member in the final pay plan. After gaining several years of experience in the Netherlands, he moved to Alsace to support the new ice cream factory in Steinbourg. After returning in 1990, he held various European engineering roles and was shift manager in Veghel for 2 years. Eric experienced the start of the Global Engineering organization and was for a long time responsible for developing the global Packaging Asset standards. In 2013 he moved to India to build the first Mars chocolate factory, followed by a 3-year stay in the US to support the modernization of the existing factories there. As of January 1, 2020, Eric started working for KIND International, again from Veghel, to support KIND's rapid growth in Europe from an engineering perspective. Meanwhile this role is also more Global, with a lot of focus on the expansion of production

capacity at Nature's Bakery in the US. Eric lives in Son en Breugel with his partner Anke and their 2 dogs; their sons of 27 and 29 have been living independently for years.

Why Eric?

Eric joined the Talent Pool early last year and recently completed the Pension Fund Board member-A course. He is also attending the Mars Pension Fund Academy, and as an aspiring member of the Accountability Council, is quickly gaining experience of the ins and outs of MPF. Eric has long had an interest in contributing to MPF, but due to his stay abroad (2013 - 2019) was not able to flesh this out before. His extensive work experience, his years of working with other nationalities and his 6 years abroad have given him a broad understanding of various cultures and views, which enables him to look at things from different angles, and to think out-of-the-box. This qualifies Eric as a suitable candidate for our Accountability Council of MPF.

Joris Janssen

Joris (47) is a member in the ARP/ASP plan. He joined Mars Veghel in 2004 as Senior Currency Researcher within the Commercial department. After three years, he made the move to S&F - Treasury & Benefits in the position of Treasury Implementation Manager in the global Treasury team. In this role, he made a significant contribution to the expansion of the Mars Global In-House Bank. In his current role as Treasury Operations Manager, Joris is responsible for the operational treasury processes within Mars. Joris is married to Anita and with their three children Tren, Loek and Fabe they live in Liessel. He likes to play volleyball and keeps in shape on his bike at the local cycling club and also regularly as a commuter to Mars in Veghel.

Why Joris?

Over the past five years, Joris has increased his knowledge of pensions through his participation in the member sounding board group for the ARP/ASP plan. At the beginning of last year, Joris joined the Talent Pool and has now completed the Pension Fund Board member-A course. In addition, as an aspiring member, he has already walked along with the Accountability Council in the past year and thus gained the necessary experience. With his mathematical education and various financial roles, Joris has a strong analytical insight. By leading a team with global responsibility across all segments, he has the experience to make the right decisions where everyone's interest is represented. This makes Joris a suitable candidate for the Accountability Council.

Harry Faassen

Harry (70) joined Mars in 1977 as Production Shift Manager in Veghel. He then built a career in R&D and in Human Resources in Veghel and Steinbourg (F). He then led the Industrial Engineering department for the Snackfood plants in Europe and became Operations Manager of the Veghel plant. He finished his working period as Lean Deployment Manager, after which he remained active as a consultant during his pre-retirement. In his private time Harry spends his time with his family and his many hobbies. He is also active in various foundations and associations.

Waarom Harry?

Harry has reached the end of his term as Pension Board member of MPF on behalf of the pensioners and may not be reappointed within the rules of the Dutch Central Bank. In the further past he has served on the board for several years on behalf of the members and on behalf of the company. After his retirement he also served for a period on the Accountability Council. In all these positions, Harry has gained extensive experience in all aspects of the pension fund.

His career and responsibilities show that Harry bases his choices on the 5 Principles of Mars, with a special eye for the interests of people. All this makes him a suitable candidate for this future position in the Accountability Council of Mars Pension Fund.
