Wat is SFDR?
SFDR stands for Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation. It is a recent EU regulation aimed at providing transparency in the extent to which 'sustainability' plays a role in the investment portfolio. The focus of the regulation is mainly on investment funds and institutions, and not so much on pension funds, although transparency is important for them too.
Mars Pension Fund embraces this aspiration. At the same time, the issues and opportunities are multi-dimensional and there are different interpretations of terminology. In order to incorporate sustainability into the investment portfolio so that it is supportive of the Fund's Risk-Return objectives, this is about a process with a time horizon of years.
However, the SFDR has reporting requirements effective March 10, 2021. We choose the "Opt-Out" variant with respect to this reporting (on the website). This deals with whether investment decisions take into account the negative impact that investment decisions have on society. The choice of Opt-Out is solely in connection with our understanding that a fairly pertinent required reporting structure is not in line with the status of the development of our policy.
Remuneration Policy
With regard to the Remuneration Policy, it can be stated that the remuneration of the directors/employees does not depend on the extent to which the pension fund incorporates sustainability risks in its investment policy.
With regard to the obligation concerning 'sustainable products', we declare that the Fund does not have any products that are promoted as such and therefore, from the perspective of SFDR, the classification 'other' applies.
Taxonomy Regulation
The European Taxonomy Regulation indicates whether an economic activity is sustainable or not. Based on this regulation, pension funds are required to indicate whether they invest environmentally sustainable since 1 January 2022. This Taxonomy Regulation is intertwined with the aforementioned SFDR. With its investments Mars Pension Fund does not take into account the EU criteria for environmentally sustainable activities as defined in the EU Taxonomy.
