Will you accrue pension during your leave?

3 May 2017

If you take vacation days, you will get paid. And you will also build up a pension. If you take unpaid leave, however, it may affect your pension. For example, if you take parental leave or a sabbatical.

Unpaid leave

This is leave when you remain employed, but do not receive salary. For example, a sabbatical. You do not accrue pension during unpaid leave.

During your leave, you are insured for your partner's pension and/or orphan's pension for a maximum of 18 months. In the event of your death during your leave period, your partner and/or children are entitled to a partner's pension and/or orphan's pension.

Parental leave

Do you want to spend more time with your children and are you taking parental leave? Then you can take parental leave (until your child is 8 years old). You will continue to accrue pension during your leave. The partner and orphan's pensions are also well regulated.
