AOW, retirement date and retirement age, what about that?

2 May 2018

When it comes to retirement, you have to deal with different ages. What's the deal? And what does it mean to you?

Retirement age

The target retirement age is a calculation age to determine the maximum pension a person may accrue within the tax rules. The government sets the target retirement age. From 2018 this has been increased from 67 to 68 years. Mars Pensioenfonds has decided to align with the target retirement age.

State pension age

The age at which you receive AOW from the government. This may be different from your retirement age.

From now on, the state pension age depends on your date of birth and is determined by the government 5 years in advance. You can find out what your personal AOW age is at the moment at www.svb.nl/aow. However, were you born after September 30, 1956? In that case, your state pension age has not yet been determined. You can see a forecast on various websites, for example at www.svb.nl/aow.

Retirement age

The age at which you retire in your pension plan. At Mars Pensioenfonds, the standard is 68 years.

Retirement Date

The date on which you receive a pension from Mars Pensioenfonds. This can be your retirement age or your state pension age, or even earlier. The choice is yours!

Retired earlier… is that possible?

Yes. At Mars Pensioenfonds you can still decide for yourself when you start your pension. According to your employment contract, your pension starts at your state pension age, but the choice is yours. You can start your pension from the age of 50. But please note: if you retire earlier, your pension benefit will be lower.

Other retirement options

With a number of options you can adjust your pension to your own wishes. Some choices you make (far) before you retire. We list the choices for you.
