Pension 123 Layer 3

Layer 3: new partner

New partner

If you remarry after separating or enter into a new (registered) partnership, your new partner will not necessarily be eligible for a partner's pension.

  There are three possible situations.

  • You are still employed at Mars at the time you get a new partner
  • You are not still employed at Mars at the time you get a new partner, and you have not yet retired
  • You have retired at the time you get a new partner

In the first case, you will accrue a new partner’s pension for your new partner since the date of the separation.

In the second situation, the date when you and your former partner separate is important. If this was while you were still employed at Mars, your new partner will be entitled to the partner's pension you have accrued at Mars since the separation. If you and your former partner separate after the end of your employment at Mars, your new partner (if applicable) will only be entitled to partner's pension if your former partner waives their special partner's pension.

In the third situation, there will be no partner's pension for your new partner.
