Indexation (ARP/ASP)

We try to increase your pension benefit every year. This is only possible if the pension fund is financially healthy. If it is not, we cannot increase it.

How much indexation is possible?

Normally, money becomes worth a little less every year. You can buy a little less next year with €100 than you can now. To ensure that your pension retains its value, we try to increase your accrued pension benefit every year. Whether this is possible depends on our financial position. The board decides at the end of each year whether we can increase it, and if so by how much. For whom is the supplement intended?

  • Are you still building up capital for your pension? We do not increase this capital with a supplement. This is because your capital can grow with the returns on your investments.
  • Are you retired? Whether we increase your pension depends on your choice on the retirement date. This is because the supplement only applies to pensions that MPF pays out.

ARP of ASP

Are you retiring? Then you buy a lifelong (fixed or variable) pension with your pension capital from the MUP and MSP. With your pension capital from the MUP scheme, you can purchase a fixed* pension from Mars Pensioenfonds or an external party, such as an insurer. A variable pension can only be purchased from an external party. With your pension capital from the MSP scheme, you purchase a fixed or variable pension from an external party, such as an insurer. It is up to you to choose which party.

  • If you purchase from us, our increase (surcharge) will apply.
  • If you purchase from another insurer, the rules of that insurer apply.

When can we increase?

Whether we can increase pensions depends on the funding level. The table below shows when increases are possible.

* The percentages 123 and 128 are linked to MPF's investment policy. If the (investment) policy changes, these percentages may also change.

The increase can sometimes be higher than the wage increase, because we base ourselves on preliminary figures. This will be corrected one year later.

Future increases

The fund pays for future increases in your pension. We pay this from the returns we get from investments. Mars does not pay MPF a premium for these increases in the future. We have to have enough money to pay out an increase. That's why we call it "conditional supplement".

Indexation and shortfall expectations for the coming years

There is a good chance that we will be able to increase your pension in full over the next five years. A reduction in your pension is not on the cards at the moment. For the next five years, the chance of a reduction in your pension is small (but not excluded). The chance of catch-up indexation - making up for missed indexation from the past - is high.

Frequently asked questions

The supplement (also known as indexation) to your pension is the addition you receive to maintain all or part of the purchasing power of your pension. After all, life usually becomes a little more expensive every year.

That is why MPF tries to increase your accrued pension every year on the basis of the 'consumer price index figure for all households from September to September'. This figure is set annually by Statistics Netherlands (CBS).

MPF uses the price index for the calculation. The outcome of the supplement calculation is 75% of the price index with a maximum of 3%.
